FIELD SPANIEL

The Field Spaniel is a dog race, of medium size, original of England. He is one of spaniels that can serve as dogs as hunting. It is a race of old lineage, that this becoming related with the Cockers Spaniel, with which it shares a same origin. In 1892 both varieties they separated, becoming different races.

They were first spaniels bred especially for exhibitions. In fact, they were developed in fashion in contemporary form with the entrance of the exhibitions of dogs. Soon after its introduction, it was transformed into a success and quickly one became a very popular race. Like the majority of spaniels, it began as a race with a color bases and I touch of target, nevertheless, the criadores looked for to create a dog of solid black color.

The focusing of the criadores of this race in the canine exhibitions lead to the fast extinction of the Field original Spaniel. The dogs were cruzados with Sussex Spaniels and Basset Hounds to produce unit of short legs and long body, that consequently lead to the enormous problems of health in these. Just when the Field Spaniels became the star of the world of the canine exhibitions, they began to emerge many genetic problems.

On the verge of arriving at the extinction, the criadores began to work to recover to the Field Spaniel to their old glory. That aim, it was crossed to him the Springer English Spaniel, under the supervision of the Kennel English Club, to increase his heap genetic. Even though the Field Spaniel were recovered to normality, it has never reached the same level of popularity that got to show and, at the moment, continues being a rare race. Anyway, it is more often considered him in the circles of the exhibition, and in the field, as hunting companion.

The present specifications of the race go back to 1948, when the Field Spaniel Society of the United Kingdom was reformed and the new standard for the Field Spaniel settled down.
