KRASKY OVCAR
The Ovcara Kraški (Karst Shepherd Dog) is the name of an area of karst (kras in Slovenian) landscape in Slovenia, Italy, Croatia and partly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Gulf of Trieste to the Dinaric Alps. Most of the breed in the Republic of Slovenia and Croatia in Istria. The ancestral type of race today with pastors traveled through this area, and most likely comes with former pastoralists.
In 1689 Baron Janez Vajkard Valvasor mentioned the pastor of the dogs from the area in its brief on Slovenia. In the 20th century, when the breed of shepherd dogs began to be documented as a modern breed, which was named the Illyrian Shepherd (1939), but in 1956 became the Illyrian Shepherd two races, and the Kraški Ovcara Šarplaninac. The breed is recognized by the Slovenian Kennel Club as a natural treasure of Slovenia and the oldest breed. [2] [[Federation Internationale Cynologique] recognized the breed in the Group 2, Section 2.2-Mountain races Molossoid type, number 278. [3] The breed has also been exported to the United States, recognized by the United Kennel Club in the Watchdog Group. The breed is also recognized by various kennel clubs and smaller Internet-based dog registry businesses and is touted as a rare breed of people seeking a pet.
