Bracco Italiano

Bracco Italiano is a serious looking, people- loving dog which makes a wonderful family dog. This breed originated in Italy and comes in two colors, chestnut and white-orange. The chestnut color is called as Roano Marrone and the white orange goes by the name Bianco Arancio. If there are three colors in a dog, it is called a fault. You cannot have spots of black or any other color anywhere on a pure breed.

The Bracco Italiono’s movements are very fluid and resemble a gallop when hunting. It is an Italian breed and the writings and paintings suggest that they have been around from the 4th and the 5th century. It has very long ears and an almost convex muzzle. It has a tail that is docked to a little more than half its length. The coat is short and glossy and the coat is softer around the head, ears and feet. It has a very distinct trot and is held in very high regard. It was sought by royals too.

They are docile and obedient when at home and become very active while hunting. They can be used as excellent gun dogs. They make wonderful hunting companions and they also have a very sharp nose. They do not mature until they are about 4 years of age. Being ignored doesn’t sit well with this breed of dogs. They need to be given attention and love. You don’t have to worry about them not getting along with other animals around them. They can be trained to get along with other pets.

Training Bracco Italianos takes a lot of patience and reprimanding them doesn’t always work. They are stubborn and being intelligent, if they decide they have a better idea, it is difficult to make them do what you want them to. The key to successful training is to be gentle yet firm. They are very sensitive and get upset when yelled at but as soon as they learn they have impressed you, they will be happy.

Keeping them clean is very easy as they have short hair. They shed a few times a year and a hound glove can help you get rid of the dead coat. Being an active breed, they are happy when they are hunting. You will need to give them good obedience training and regular mental stimulation too. They are very versatile dogs and do well in water sports too.

Bracco Italiano is a very loyal dog but the breed is only just gaining popularity in the West. They bond with children very well and make excellent companions for them. They are easy to maintain and are not aggressive unless there is an offending stranger. The mild temper in this dog makes it a great family dog and other features like intelligence and a sharp nose makes it a great hunter. It is for all these reasons that a person who has owned them once will find it hard to love any other breed.
