Bull Terrier
The Bull Terrier is a breed of dog that hails from the terrier family. The most Prominent feature the dog is its head. This breed has an egg head of sort. When viewed from the front, the dog’s head looks almost completely flat from the top with an evenly sloping roman muzzle that continues non stop till the end of the nose. One of their unique characteristics is their eyes. The bull terrier has deep set, dark, small almost triangular shaped eyes. The body of a Bull Terrier is round and full with muscular and robust shoulders. The tail is also surprisingly muscular which is horizontally carried. The Bull Terrier is also known as the ‘gladiator of the canine race’. These dogs have a jaunty gait that is easily recognizable in the movements of the dog. This breed of dog has no specific height or weight, but averages at about 51 to 61 cms tall and 20 to 38 kgs in weight. The miniature bull terrier and he Bull Terrier are the only breeds of dog to have uniquely shaped triangular eyes.
This breed has had a fighting which gave them their gladiator nickname. They have become much more gentle and calm in present times. The Bull Terrier’s past can come in handy in a bad situation as they have a somewhat preventive nature and will defend their owners to any extent.
These little Terriers are known for their cloning around and scrappy behaviour. The Bull Terrier is courageous, loyal, fearless, fun loving and extremely active. They are obedient and very polite dogs. Bull Terriers make en excellent house pet as they thrive on attention from their owners and become very closely bonded with their families. These dogs require a consistent and firm leadership from their owners and a good deal of affection. Bull Terriers are active and enjoy being a part of a similarly active family that can keep their pet forever active and playful. This pet does not come highly recommended for most households as they do not do well in situations where they are left alone for long hours during the day. These Terriers are fond of children as well as grown ups but can become a little too energetic for very small children. They must be given a good deal of leadership, structure and training. A constant pack leader should remain while the pet is around. They make very good watch dogs and will bite any strangers that try to enter the house.
The Bull Terrier is seen in many colors but is mainly noticed in an all white form. These dogs have quite a few health problems. Puppies should be taken to doctors and thoroughly checked for any signs of deafness. They also have a heightened tendency to pick up skin allergies. These allergies can easily be treated. They require a good amount of grooming with weekly baths and daily brushing. The Bull Terriers have a life span of 10 to 14 years.
