Kerry Beagle
One of the most successful breeds of dog which is popular over the world is the hunting type. This breed has a lot of qualities which make them very able, strong and powerful. One such famous breed is the Kerry Beagle. It is one of the oldest breeds of Irish hounds. Hounds are a type of hunting dog which is specialized as a scent dog. They have a very strong sense of smell and during a hunting expedition; they usually accompany other bigger breeds. These dogs are sent in first to track the prey, after which the bigger dogs are sent in to attack. The Kerry Beagle is especially good at hunting hares, as these are the most difficult game to capture.
The Kerry Beagle is a typical hound. It is built lean and looks aggressive and ready when they are standing. The body structure suggests speed and endurance. It is a medium sized hound with a broad head, a very short maintenance free coat and long ears. They may grow to of 56 to 62 cms. They are light and weigh approximately 27 kgs. The coat has brown and tan as popular colours, white is also seen. It is a very neatly packaged dog and looks ready for action. This is seen in its actions too. It is a very active dog, with a strong sense of smell.
They are very popular hunting dogs and are still used to hunt hare. They are also used a lot in speed trails. These trails are used to ascertain the dogs speed by letting a hare run in front of the dogs and seeing which one is capable of catching it the first. The Kerry Beagle is a pack hound. Hence is social and very involved. This pack feature is used well in hunting. They will be able to corner their prey easily when they work in packs. They are very popular all over the world. This breed was on the verge of extinction but was saved.
The Kerry Beagle can be trained well. It has an intelligent mind and is always active. It needs a lot of exercise. A Kerry Beagle needs about two to three rounds of walks in a day ideally, and also need free running space. This means that it is good to keep them in houses which have a full sized yard. Or else the dog can become very aggressive and also their health condition may deteriorate in a self inflicted attempt. This is the dangers one has to face if they do not get their exercise. Otherwise the Kerry Beagle is a very healthy and lively dog. It is good with small children and hence is a good choice for a family dog. The Kerry Beagle is also a very old breed. It has been mentioned in the early 17th century. This is one of the oldest Irish hunting breed and is famous for their illustrious time in history. They have been used by royalty on hunting expeditions.
