AFFENPINSCHER
The Affenpinschers breed is native to Germany in the XV century and was quickly popular in other countries in Europe from the XVII. It developed as a mice hunter by excellence, and this was the reason why the breed was so demanded amongst grocers and stable owners. It is currently the ideal companion animal. Because of its peculiar appearance it is known by some no less peculiar names, as the English Monkey Pindacker, and the French Diablolin Moustachu, which means “mustached little devil”. As with other European breeds, the affenpinscher was close to disappearing after both world wars, but due to the impulse this breed received in United States and Great Britain, interest was renewed and so was demand toward this lovely animal.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of Affenpinschers: Small and bold, the affenpinscher is a fun looking dog and with a cheerful temperament. The measures set for this small affenpinscher vary according to several countries’ federations, although 23 and 28 cm are accepted. It has hard, very abundant and shaggy hair, shorter in the torso than in the rest of the body, it can have several brown or intense black, silver gray and chestnut; with white spots that are accepted by some federations.
Very shaggy looking, the affenpinscher is qualified as a comical dog.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of Affenpinschers: This dog’s audacity and lack of shyness is worth mentioning. Despite its small size it is an effective guard, so fearless that many stories about their stand offs with much larger animals are told. It is amusing, funny and quite mischievous. It easily adapts to the home and very loving towards the family members, but quite untrusting with strangers.
Affenpinschers EXERCISE AND CARE Needs: Although it can seem otherwise, periodical brushing and bimonthly fur hygiene performed by professionals is enough care for the affenpinscher, without forgetting it needs regular dental attention. And due to its small size, a short daily walk is enough to keep it healthy and satisfy. This makes it an appropriate dog for the city.
