ARGENTINE DOGGE

It was originated in the early XX century in the cities of Cordova and Esquel, after a series of crossings with other breeds, as the dogge carried by the Spanish in the XVI century, the bulldog, bullterrier and some fighting dogs. The breed standard was set in 1964, defining then as a dog destined to mountain lion and bore hunting. It is very popular in Argentina, but outside the borders it is not very popular, as in the case of Europe, where very few specimens reached.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ARGENTINE DOGGE
It is a very large dog, brawny and powerful, but very agile. It has a very impressive head, small eyes and dark in brown shades and triangular ears partially drooped which are normally cut. The short, straight and shiny hair is completely white. It is 60 to 65 cm tall and weighs between 40 to 50 kg, parameters somewhat inferior for females. Despite it being a good guardian it is a dog that doesn’t bark much.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the ARGENTINE DOGGE
It is kind and balanced, affectionate towards the family and, especially, with children. Requires a disciplined education since it can be aggressive, mostly females, while defending its puppies. Although in some countries it’s considered potentially dangerous, in Argentina it is used, when well trained, as a guide dog and rescue specialist. It adapts well to any weather and environment.

In order for it to be a company dog, its training should begin early and moderate its hunting instinct and independence since it’s a puppy.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a ARGENTINE DOGGE
It requires little care; just an occasional brushing is enough. The exercise should be prolonged and frequent. It is a dog that barely barks, only if it is under the impression that its family and most of all children are in danger; then it can become dangerous, since it will defend them to its very life.
