ARTOIS HOUND
It is a French breed, with an unknown origin date, although it is mentioned in the 1890 hunting manual. It was thought extinct after the World War II, but in 1970, breeders began its reconstruction parting from the very few specimens they could find, through a careful selection that rendered excellent fruits.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ARTOIS HOUND
It has a medium size, and an approximate height of 52 to 58 cm and a weight between 28 to 30 kg, with a good constitution and remarkable musculature. The neck is strong, long and has a slight double chin. The muzzle is straight and slightly elongated, it appears to be a little elevated because of the nose shape, very open, solid and black. The eyes are large and bulgy, with a very sweet expression, and relatively large ears, wide, flat and large. Its fur is short, dense and very hard. It can be tawny or tricolor with black and reddish spots.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the ARTOIS HOUND
It has a shy temperament, but is cheerful and lively but balanced and affectionate. It is trained very easily and shares a social life naturally with people it knows. It is a very loyal dog, especially to its most direct owner.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a ARTOIS HOUND
The care it requires is the normal to animals with its traits, in hygiene as in diet. Exercise must be frequent and intense.
