AUSTRALIAN SILKY TERRIER


In order to achieve a small but resistant and solid dog, the terrier Skye and Yorkshire were crossed in Australia. The result was this silky variety, also known as the Silky Terrier. It was acknowledged in1962 and soon later the standard was set. It has currently spread as a small breed, but its strong hunting instinct, a loyal genetic heir of its ancestors.

It has a lock between the eyes that should not cover them. In the expositions, it is considered a fault if any part of the face is covered by the hair.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the AUSTRALIAN SILKY TERRIER
The silky Australian terrier, as implicit in its name, is known for its long fur (14 cm) fine, smooth and very silky texture, with a central line that distributes it in two falling bands. The colors are blue, gray and silver. Its body has a compact but refined appearance, its head is solid and moderate extension. The eyes are small, dark and expressive, the nose is black and the ears, which form a small triangle, are erect. The ideal height in this elegant dog is 23 cm and its weight is between 3.5 and 4.5 cm, the females are a little shorter.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the AUSTRALIAN SILKY TERRIER
It is cheerful, energetic, intelligent, very sociable and docile with people around it. They demonstrate a lot of curiosity and allow education easily. It is an excellent company dog that loves the domestic life.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a AUSTRALIAN SILKY TERRIER
The fur needs special attention, which has to be brushed deeply and constantly almost daily. If it is born with a tail, it is recommended that it is cut. The exercise needed is limited to two daily walks, if possible during the same hours.
