AUVERNIA BRACO


As in other ancient breed, its origin is also involved in different legends that give it a mysterious and charmed element that integrated in the town’s folklore. In the case of this French braco, it is said that the Templar took it to the Auvergne area. But there are those that defend that it comes from Malta and went along the journeys of the Order knights. Legends aside, the English pointer gave this breed quick movement and fine sense of smell through its blood.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the AUVERNIA BRACO
The males stand at 60 cm in average and the females around 3 cm shorter, the weigh can go between 22 and 25 kg. It has a solid musculature, a long, strong neck with a slight double chin and, in general, a medium appearance: wide and robust but distinguished. The head is elongated, with wide hazelnut eyes, and low implanted ears, flexible, light, silky and slightly wrinkled. The fur is short and glossy, white with black spots or black with blue highlights.

The Auvergne Braco is born with a tail, it should be amputated if we intend to abide to the standard.

The limbs have a good musculature and solid born structure; the feet are compact and short, joint fingers and hard pads.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the AUVERNIA BRACO
It is peaceful, obedient, tame and very affectionate with its masters. It is intelligent and methodical, which makes its training easy. Although the natural instinct in the hunting dog is evident, it adapts perfectly to living in a home, as long as it feels a part of the family.

Its basic hygiene and diet care and daily exercise will keep the dog happy and in good shape.
