BURDEOS DOGGE

It is believed that this breed already existed from the time of the Celts, who used it as a guardian. During the Middle Ages two varieties were known, the butcher dog and Turkish dog, both were trained to fight larger animals and other dogs. In 1863, Paris celebrated the first show in which these dogs appeared under their current name. After two world wars, they seemed to have disappeared, but in the Bordeaux, France, the breed was retrieved from the few that were saved from the extinction, recovering its development in the 1960s.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the BURDEOS DOGGE
It is an athletic dog, with a good musculature and powerful appearance. Males are 62 to 68 cm high and weigh 50 kg, females are not over 66 cm and the medium weight was 45 kg. It is a typical large headed molosser (original from the Molossians, close to Greece), with a wide and dark nose, relatively small ears, darker than the rest of the fur and rounded at the tip; it has brown or hazelnut eyes, oval shaped and deep gaze. The fur is short and smooth; it can have a pretty brown chestnut color or tawny, with its different nuances.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the BURDEOS DOGGE
It is a good watchdog, affectionate and loyal to the family. Very brave but not showing aggressiveness and with a somewhat dominant temperament, which is more evident in the male. It is calm, decided and sensible. If educated loving and firmly, it will easily adapt to the family environment, as long as it has enough space and in a defined place close to people, because it doesn’t enjoy being alone at all.

EXERSICE AND CARE required for a BURDEOS DOGGE
It is common to snub muzzled breeds; it can have attention requiring breathing problems. It needs plenty of exercise to avoid its tendency to overweight.

It has a double chin in the neck, very wide and with an almost cylindrical shape that widens towards the shoulders.
