BURGOS POINTING DOG

This Burgos pointing dog is rarely known beyond the limits of the Castilian plateau where it is native from, although it is probable that it was the main antecessor of many other pointing dogs.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the BURGOS POINTING DOG
It has a rustic, strong and somewhat square appearance, it is not as slender as, for example, the pointer, but it doesn’t lack a certain arrogant air. The male’s height should not exceed 67 cm nor be under 62 cm and the females should be 59 to 64 cm tall, the weigh in both should be between 25 and 30 kg. The head is large, the skull is wide, the stop is not well defined and the muzzle is very square. The eyes are almond shaped and dark; the ears are long, large and flexible, drooped and folded in two wide creases shaped as ringlets. The fur is short, tight and straight, white with more or less dark chestnut spots or liver colored, spattered in white.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the BURGOS POINTING DOG
Its notable intelligence makes it understand its trainer’s orders at once and adapt well to a social life in family, preferably if it is not in a city environment.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a BURGOS POINTING DOG
It is one of the many breeds that get their tails amputated. If it lives in the country, or has a large open space available, it doesn’t require special care. It is a serene, reflexive and intelligent animal, with an affectionate and docile temperament.
