CANARIAN WARREN HOUND
It is a Spanish breed, bred for rabbit hunting and spread throughout the Canary Islands. The origin of the canary is so old that it dates back to the ancient Egyptian dogs, taken by any of the Mediterranean people that passed through the Canary Islands.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the CANARIAN WARREN HOUND
It is medium sized, good musculature and agile lines. The head is elongated, truncated cone shaped, slightly defined stop, wide and prominent muzzle with a usually light nose, in harmony with the coat color. The eyes are small, almond shaped, sweet and intelligent gaze and variable color according to the coat. The ears are large and erect which give them the impression of always being alert, attentive to the slightest noise or movement; when the dog is at rest, it keeps them pulled back. The males stand, to the cross, between 55 and 64 cm and the females between 53 and 56 cm; the weigh is 24 or 25 kg. It has short fur, straight and very dense, red and white.
The canary podengo is an especially agile dog.
CARÁCTER Y ADAPTACIÓN
It can be slightly stern and somewhat nervous at times, but it is usually a clam and not aggressive dog. It is very loyal and affectionate towards its master and mildly affectionate with the other people around it. It demonstrates a notable astuce and vehemence in its instinctive decisions. It is very independent and slightly stubborn, it is best to begin its training as soon as possible, in order to achieve an adequate adaptation.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a CANARIAN WARREN HOUND
It is a brave, restless and dynamic dog, and despite this, it is very easy to groom. The fur, as in every hound breed, keeps shiny and glossy with a weekly brushing to get it looking clean and healthy. It needs a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.
