CHINESE CRESTED DOG


It is said that a hairless dog already existed 10,000 years ago in China. There are some who defend that this dog finds its origin in the Mexican hairless dog. Other theories support precisely the opposite, the crossing of the hairless Mexican dog and the Chihuahua originated the Chinese crested. This breed, whatever its origin and age, has risen curiosity in Occident since 1885, when it was first shown in New York. From that date, it has spread throughout America and Europe, where it entered through England and reached a lot of popularity.

It has a smooth head, the skull is elongated, the ears are large and erect, the eyes are almost black and quite separated and a fine tail with bristles from the middle to the end.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the CHINESE CRESTED DOG
It is a small sized breed whose males stand between 28 and 33 cm and the females from 23 to 30, being it advisable that doesn’t exceed 5.5 kg in any case. There are two varieties, one with a medium and light (deer type) skeleton and another with a heavier skeleton (coby type), which reflects in its body appearance, more or less robust. This dog’s is more or less inexistent as such; it doesn’t have largely furry areas, barely a fine hair veil on the warm and almost grainy skin. Its main characteristic is the crest, a hair formation with variable longitude which begins at the stop and continues diminishing towards the nape of the neck. It can be in any color, if it is uniform as well as in combination.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the CHINESE CRESTED DOG
It is cheerful and fun, not aggressive or timid. Friendly with the people it knows and is particularly affectionate with the family, it is an excellent, vivacious and playful partner, and it likes pampering and having a place near its masters. It is ideal for living in a flat and easy to educate, as long as it is done when it is very young.

It likes to climb supporting itself with the claws, which are so long that they can ever use them to grab objects.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a CHINESE CRESTED DOG
Its fur doesn’t require special care; for the crested dog to develop normally, a balanced diet and a couple of walks a day are enough. Light colored dogs can easily suffer sunburns, for which, before taking it out for walks it is convenient to lather it a high factor sun block. To comb it, a soft brush should be used.
