CLUMBER SPANIEL

The clumber is the most recent spaniel. Although it is allocated to England, it seems its real origin is French. During the French Revolution, and facing the fear of these dogs disappearing, the Duque of Noailles sent them to England. There, the nobility took on its breeding and development and the breed took the name clumber, as a property of the Duque of Nottingham. If its genetic ascendance we could mention the alpine spaniel, who in turn is descendent of Spanish breeds and the basset hound.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the CLUMBER SPANIEL
Although the clumber male’s height is generally ruled between 48 and 50 cm, and the weigh around 36 kg, these measures vary depending on the different federation’s standard, for which if we intend to present the dog in a contest, we would need to consult with the pertinent federation. The eyes are dark amber with a sweet expression, the ears are large, with a shape similar to vine leafs, solid and furry. It is a short and heavy looking dog, the expression is thoughtful and the movements are slow. The fur, medium/long length, copious, smooth and with bristles, it is white, with a few brown spots over the head and ears.

Its body is sturdy, compact appearance, trait which makes it more evident due to their short limbs.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the CLUMBER SPANIEL
Its temperament is noble and affectionate, it likes children, but doesn’t tolerate being the target mischief. It is very intelligent and easy to educate. It adapts well to the domestic like although, basically, it is a country dog that likes to live outdoors. Even past the puppy stage, it likes to gnaw hard object, for which it we must provide it with an appropriate toy if we want to avoid it from taking on the family’s shoes.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a CLUMBER SPANIEL
The clumber’s fur should be brushed daily, this is a breed that loses a lot of hair and that frequency is necessary if we want to keep it healthy and nice. It doesn’t need to exercise a lot, but it is convenient to do it daily.
