COCKER SPANIEL
Although the basic type was originated in Spain, many centuries ago, several spaniel varieties were developed in England and the in Ireland, Scotland and France. Because of this it is catalogued this breed as an English selected for hunting.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the COCKER SPANIEL
The males don’t exceed 41 cm and the females are between 38 and 39 cm, with a weigh of 12 to 14 kg. The muzzle is square, with a well pronounced stop, wide nose and the eyes are large, round, brown and very expressive. It has shiny and silky fur, with bristles in the long droopy ears and feet, and longer in the chest and belly. It can be homogeneous, generally black or fire, in several colors, predominating white. However, in the first case, white spots are not admitted in the chest or throat.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the COCKER SPANIEL
The temperament is cheerful and lively, which it demonstrates with continuous tail movement. It is obedient, docile and very affectionate, especially with the children. Its hunting instinct stimulates aggressiveness towards other pets, mainly cats. It adapts perfectly to any home, if it has a yard as well as in a reduced flat, due to its enormous sociability.
Bone lightness, ribs with little curvature, wrinkled head and small and bulgy eyes are considered flaws.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a COCKER SPANIEL
It is convenient to examine the inside of their ears to detect otitis and other in time. The fur should be cleaned and brushed, especially the longest, taking care so it doesn’t tangle; good fur care makes its characteristic shine appreciated. It is recommended that the food container is deep and narrow to avoid the ears dropping in. It doesn’t need to exercise too much, daily walks in which it can run around to prevent it from gaining weight.
