DOBERMAN

This dog was created toward 1890 by Louis Doberman in Apolda, Germany, from Rottweiler and pinscher crosses. Doberman worked as a guard and bred this new breed to get a dog to help him at his job: a good guardian, obedient and trainable in self defense.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the DOBERMAN
Male Dobermans are 72 cm tall and weigh 45 kg, females are 68 cm tall and weigh 35 kg. Its fur is shiny, dense and very short, it can be black, dark brown or reddish, with the legs, the muzzle and the chest rust colored. It has a well proportioned head, high and well developed torso and short feet with black nails. The Doberman is the prototype for a watchdog since it has a great territory defense instinct.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the DOBERMAN
The Doberman went through a phase in which it what considered aggressive and fierce, because it was mostly trained for personal defense. A phase which has been overcome by removing this type of training, nowadays it’s a docile and affectionate dog, qualities that make it a good companion, easy to educate, as long as there is enough patience and energy, while keeping its watchdog aptitude, house and master defender. The female adapts better to life in an apartment; in any case, it is a dog that because of its impulsiveness needs open spaces, for which it is advisable for them to live in houses with yards. Because of its energy while playing, it is not advisable as a companion for small children.

The breed carries its creator’s name, a security guard named Louis Doberman.

Being it a very strong dog, physically as well as in its character, the Doberman controls this strength well and is very intelligent when accepting and obeying the trainer’s orders.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a DOBERMAN
If the dog lives in a yard, it’s necessary to provide it a good kennel to shelter it from rough weather shifts and humidity. It doesn’t require much care, an occasional brushing and keeping the ears clean. The exercise needs to be daily; one hour running outdoors will fulfill its movement and freedom needs.
