ENTLEBUCH SHEEPDOG
The smallest of Swiss mountain sheepdog was achieved after carefully selected successive crossings. It is native to the Entlebuch Valley, between the Bern and Lucerne, where it is considered an excellent helper in guarding and herding tasks. It has been described towards the middle of the XIX century, but it was in 1913 when it was presented in a canine show for the first time. The standard definition was set in 1927.
This sheepdog is selected to watch over, guide and defend the cattle, farms and houses. This is also an excellent dog for family life.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ENTLEBUCH SHEEPDOG
The Entlebuch sheepdog is a medium sized dog, solid in structure, with a medium 45 cm height to the cross and 20 kg weight. It has a very proportioned head, with a short neck, medium sized ears and hanging lobes, fair colored small and round eyes, with an intelligent gaze. It has a double, abundant and dense inner fur and short external fur, well attached to the skin, dry and shiny, tricolor with a black base and brownish, white, reddish and yellowish spots.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the ENTLEBUCH SHEEPDOG
This dog is considered very intelligent, brave and kind. It is completely loyal to its masters, but distrustful with strangers. It shows great learning ability, which quickly makes it an excellent dog for work and affectionate and docile for company purposes. Therefore, it is usual that its adaptation to family life develops uneventfully.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a ENTLEBUCH SHEEPDOG
Such as in other dogs with the same physical TRAITS, it doesn’t need special care, except for regular hair brushing. And we must never forget the need for regular outdoor exercise, whether it’s in the country or city streets.
