FLAT COATED RETRIEVER


Unmatched retriever English breed that was probably originated from the crossings of dogs imported from the north of the American continent. In the middle of the XIX century the breed was set and immediately attracted the hunters’ attention due to its noticeable benefits in the modality.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the FLAT COATED RETRIEVER
It is a medium sized dog, the males are, from foot to cross from 58 to 61 cm tall and weigh between 27 and 36 kg, the weight of the females is between 25 to 32 kg and its height is between 56 and 59 cm. Its appearance is solid but not heavy, the chest is wide and the limbs are muscular. The head is long, with harmonious lines, the skull is flat and the stop is undefined. The eyes are medium sized and a dark chestnut or hazelnut, and the ears are small, medium implanted. The fur is dense, straight, fine and flat with bristles, only in two uniform colors: black and brown.

The retriever is an intelligent dog, confident and endowed with a great hunting instinct.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the FLAT COATED RETRIEVER
It is intelligent, controlled and obedient. Those qualities, added to its intelligence and will to learn, make training very easy and the results are excellent. It is kind and cheerful, careful with children and very affectionate with family, shows fidelity to its masters without limits, who it wishes to please demonstrating it constantly. It is enthusiastic about any stimulus and responds very generously.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a FLAT COATED RETRIEVER
It needs to have its fur carefully brushed and we should not try to get rid of its particular odor through baths, since it is a breed trait that is not unpleasant. Watching the diet, and providing it with the appropriate time and space to exercise will avoid a certain tendency to gain and keep it in shape.
