GERMAN BROKENCOATED POINTER


Its origins are almost the same than other German pointers, probably with a great genetic contribution from the setter, and it is only different form them for its fur quality and for being slightly shorter than the latter.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the GERMAN BROKENCOATED POINTER
The male’s height, from foot to cross, is 60 to 66 cm and the females, as common in almost every breed, are 3 or 4 cm shorter. It has a proportionate head with a fairly wide nasal canal, a pronounced stop, long muzzle and much pigmented nose in harmony with the coat color. The eyes are dark and have a lively and intelligent expression, the ears are of medium implantation; it has a paused stride and solid appearance, without it seeming heavy. The fur is rigid, with a bristle appearance and is about 5 cm long. By general rule, it is brown and white with a grayish mix; at the head, it forms a tuft and well defined beard.

The hair must be 5 cm long, grow in the same front to back direction, be hard, stiff and bristle looking.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the GERMAN BROKENCOATED POINTER
It is a serious dog, not only in appearance but in character as well: confident, balanced and reflexive. It loves to feel useful and show off its skills. Although it is basically a country dog, it can adapt to a city life, as long as it feels important inside the family nucleus. It allows training with exceptional easy and obeys rules with meekness.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a GERMAN BROKENCOATED POINTER
Practically, the only care it needs is keeping its fur clean and good looking, which is achieved through frequent brushings and a late evening bath. If it lives in a flat, it must be provided with exercise time and space according to those required in every dog in its group.
