Giant Schnauzer
The Giant Schnauzer is a powerful, compact and large breed of dog. These dogs were first seen in various parts of Germany. This dog is not at all suited for life in an Apartment. These dogs will require lots of exercise and room for them to run around in. This breed does not have very long hair but does have a fair amount of feathering on their body. These dogs are usually seen in shades of black or grey. These dogs have a double layered coat. The undercoat is soft and smooth while the outer coat is wiry, harsh and rather dense. These dogs stand at 59-70 cms tall. The females are a little shorter than the males. These dogs weigh in at about 32-45 kgs. The males and females both weigh about the same.
These dogs have a rather square body. This is because they are as tall as they are long. These dogs have a string and rectangular shaped head. The top of the head and muzzle of the dog are of the same length. These dogs do not have a very well defined stop. Their slight stop ends in a rather large black nose. These dogs have medium sized eyes. They eyes are deep set, oval shaped and dark in color. These dogs have a rather sophisticated and intelligent expression. These dogs have high set ears. Their can either be natural or cropped. These dogs have tails that are usually docked to the second or third joint. These dogs are originally working dogs. They have a very good work ethic and are very intelligent. They can be trained to do just bout anything.
The Giant Schnauzer is a loyal, brave and calm dog. They will however need, an ample amount of exercise to keep their energy levels needs low enough to remain calm indoors. They are bold, reliable and vigorous dogs. These dogs are very affectionate and thrive on human attention. They will need to be given lots of love to keep them happy. These dogs are eager to please and will need a firm, patient and consistent trainer. These dogs learn best when they are rewarded for good behavior. These dogs can make very good family pets with the right kind of owner. They will not be recommended for families that do not have enough time to invest in the dog. These dogs make excellent watch dogs. Their sheer size is enough to scare away the faint hearted. They fierce and hollow bark will scare away any intruders. These dogs can be aggressive when they need to be.
This dog has a life expectancy of about 12-15years. These dogs will require a fair amount of grooming. They need to be brushed on a regular basis to remove any dead skin. These dogs will need to have their coats trimmed at least four times a year. These dogs are quite prone to cancer. This dog will need to have constant physical and mental stimulation to remain happy.
