IRISH SETTER

It shares its genetic origin with the English setter although it appeared more recently, reaching its great popularity in the XVIII century in Ireland, where breeding began and developed. Currently, the Irish setter is bred in many European countries and the United States, mainly due to its esthetics than its hunting use. Hunters continue to appreciate it as an excellent field worker.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the IRISH SETTER
It is a beautiful, arrogant, elegant and very proportionate dog, with a deep chest and muscles that the fur doesn’t allow evidence of. It has an oval shaped skull, with a reduced stop and almost square at the end, the eyes are more or less light brown, with a sweet expression, and the ears are long and droopy. Its movement is agile and fast when racing. The coat is long, straight or slightly wavy, with bristles at the ears, chest and limbs in bright red colors; it can have a white mark in the forehead and chest. Its stance is athletic and stands at 64 to 60 cm at the cross and weighs 27 to 32 kg.

It is a much appreciated dog due to its beauty and hunting skills.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the IRISH SETTER
The Irish setter is an ideal dog for those who like to run, since it enjoys doing so along its master, who it loves deeply and feels protective for, though due to its sympathy for people makes it undesirable as a guard animal. In addition, it is a pure blood athlete that seems nervous since it can’t sit still for long. It needs direct contact with the adopting family, it is affectionate and obediently, as long as it is properly educated. It adapts to the home life easily and likes children very much.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a IRISH SETTER
In case it lives in a flat, we must not forget that daily running is essential for it. The rest of the care is the same as the English setter: attention to ear hygiene and frequent brushing, beside a bath every now and then, to keep its fur shiny and healthy.
