ITALIAN HOUND
It is one of the oldest hounds, originated at first by the Egyptian greyhounds. During the XVII century, and in view of the unorganized methods it was bred, appropriate methods were set to enhance the breed. But a long time passed before the proper enthusiasm was shown to its optimal development.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ITALIAN HOUND
It has well defined muscles in a solid but thin, square lined body. The neck is slender, the chest is moderate, the back and spine are straight and muscular and the hindquarters are horizontal. The tail is high inserted and hangs, saber like, when the dog is in a resting position and elevates slightly when it is in action. There are two varieties in this breed, different in the fur quality, which in one case it is semi long and rough and in the other it is short and straight. Both are tawny, in several shades, or black with white spots. It is a tireless and resistant animal, with an ideal height of 55 cm and a weight that in no case should exceed 28 cm.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the ITALIAN HOUND
Its temperament is independent and a little fussy, it is recommended that the training starts as soon as possible and that it is constant, which is not difficult given its obedience, docile manner and great adaptation. Despite it having stubborn moments, it is a good company dog, loyal and affectionate with the family.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a ITALIAN HOUND
To keep the Italian hound in perfect shape, it only needs a balanced diet, frequent fur cleaning and plenty of exercise.
Strong and very resistant, this dog with an excellent smell works alone or in a pack.
