ITALIAN SPINONE


Its origin is very ancient, judging by the work of some Middle Ages famous painters. It is also described in the manual “The Perfect Hunter”, by Selicourt, published in 1683; for this, it is known that the spinone is an exclusively Italian breed, which comes from the Piamonte and Lombary areas. It was much appreciated by the period’s nobility and was spread, under their sponsorship, during the Renaissance, but currently it is unknown outside its native country.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ITALIAN SPINONE
The Italian spinone is square, well defined lines and solid constitution, the male spinone is, foot to cross, 60 to 70 cm tall and weigh between 32 and 37 kg, the female has a height of 58 to 65 cm and weighs 28 to 30 kg. The eyes are large and very open; their color is according to the coat color, which is stiff and hard, about 5 cm long and with no undercoat. Pure white or with orange spots, it can also be spattered in the same colors or in chestnut.

The Italian spinone is also known as “wirehaired Italian pointer”. It is intelligent, stubborn and demands much attention from its master.

Hugely sociable, kind and patient, it is also a perfect hunter and magnificent company dog. It shows true enthusiasm and joy when it goes to the field along its master, it also adapts well to life inside the house and is very affectionate to people living around it. It learns very easily due to its great intelligence and its desire for self improvement. The Italian spinnone is a well adapted dog to any type of terrain, it has great resistant and penetrates easily to places with thick vegetation to locate its preys.
