JAPANESE TERRIER
This dog was bred in Japan towards the XVII century, when it crossed with a European straight haired terrier, with small, native dogs, but the organized breed and selection was done toward 1920, and ten years later the breed standard was established.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the JAPANESE TERRIER
This elegant looking terrier is a small dog, from 30 to 33 cm in height to the cross that is the same in males and females. The back is short, the chest is deep and the hindquarters, as well as the back, are a slightly arched. This dog is has very short fur around 2 mm, dense and shiny, flat against the skin, which is presents in the white, black and fire tricolor variety, with very well traced spots whose base is white, except around the head where black predominates.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the JAPANESE TERRIER
It has a very lively, intelligent and lively temperament, with easy adaptation and training acceptance. It can be considered a lap dog that, due to its balance and affection, is a great company pet, although it hasn’t spread in the Occident.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a JAPANESE TERRIER
In order for the fur to always be shiny and clean, it is enough to dab a moist rag every now and then. It doesn’t need to exercise much, regular hygiene walks are enough for it to keep in shape.
The different federations and clubs consider pronounced prothagonism and long hair a great fault.
