KAI
The Kai dog is a Japanese breed that was naturally bred in the mountain area of the Kai from the native, medium sized dogs. For centuries, this dog engaged in hunting deer and bore. Nowadays this dog is also a company animal known in some places as “Kai-Tora-Ken” and is considered a Natural Monument since 1934.
As other Japanese mountain dogs it has the particularity of having strong legs and extraordinarily developed tarsal-tibial joints.
The Siberian husky has a characteristic stride, elastic, smooth and without apparent effort.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the KAI
It is medium sized, with good musculature development, strong and robust appearance. The males stand at 53 cm and the females stand at 48 cm, in both cases with a 53 cm tolerance. The head is wide, the stop is defined, the muzzle is pointy and the nose is black. The eyes are medium, almost triangular shaped and dark brown, the ears, larger than other dog’s with its traits, V shaped and erect. The tail is thick and the dog always coils it, in the shape of a sickle, over the hindquarters. The outer coat is rigid, unstuck and medium length, with a dense and woolly undercoat. When they are puppies they have a uniform color, that becomes tawny, in black and fire shades, as the dog grows.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the KAI
It is a lively, cheerful, attentive, intelligent and very easy to educate animal, since it seems to know every step of its training beforehand. This is why its learning is very easy all the time.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a KAI
As every hunting dog, this one also needs to exercise frequently. To take care of its fur, regular brushing is enough, making them deeper during the shedding periods.
