LAKELAND TERRIER

It is original to the Lake area, Like district, it is bred in the Cumberland and Westmorland counties in Great Britain. Presumably, its origins are in other terriers, such as the bedlington, the border or even the, now extinct, old English terrier. It is a working dog, dedicated to protect the herds mostly from fox attacks, task it fulfills excellently. The first club for this breed was founded in 1912, it was acknowledged by the reowned Kennel Club in 1921

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the LAKELAND TERRIER
This terrier’s height and weight, with a robust body with an arrogant stance, are from 34 to 37 cm and 6.7 to 7.7 kg respectively. It has a proportioned head, rectangular shaéd, with a wide muzzle and a black or dark brown nose. The droopy ears are small and triangular, and the eyes are round and very dark. The semi long hair is thick, hard, wire type, very resistant in the outer coat and soft and wooly in the inner coat. The colors are blue and fire, and the solid yellow, liver red, blue and black.

If we intend the dog to participate in a breed contest, we should consult the federation it competes in, since the standards may change from one federation to another, especially when it comes to faults and measures.

This dog is often confused with the Airedale terrier due to their physical structure similarity.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the LAKELAND TERRIER
It is a bold dog, confident, brave and very lively. Around the family, it has a cheerful temperament, very attached to the master and affectionate towards the children. It is a very nice company, that is not very difficult to educate, as long as it is done patiently and sweetly, and its adaptation process is just as easy, even to the city life.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a LAKELAND TERRIER
It needs frequent brushing, and a professional hairdressing treatment every six months. The most common colors are black and red and it is essential to remember that it needs to exercise daily, during a long time.
