Landseer
The origin of the Landseer breed of dogs goes back in to Germany and Switzerland. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the Landseer breed of dogs was considered to be the same as the Newfoundland breed of dogs. There are still a few countries in Europe where the Landseers are considered to be totally different from the Newfoundland. These Landseers when compared to the Newfoundlands have longer legs. The Landseers are not as massive as well. These are much more sporty in nature. When in shows, these two dogs always compete separately.
These dogs tend to convey a very impressive image. They are tall, very powerful and an overall well balanced dogs. Along with all these features, they are also very elegant, hardy, agile and harmonious in nature. They have a very wide muzzle which is kind off squared and is rather short. Their eyes are small in size, triangular in shape and pendant. These small eyes are normally a shade of dark brown in color. They have a black nose. Their feet are naturally webbed; these webbed feet help them to swim better and faster. Their declaws from the hind legs are removed. They have tail that hangs down low. They are double coated dogs. Their outer coat is water repellent in nature. This outer coat of theirs is oily, flat and rather wavy. Their undercoat is thick and oily. However, some dogs that prefer to live indoors lose their undercoats.
Their outer coat is very soft to touch and grows quite long in all the parts of their body, other than their head. This outer coat is preferred long, straight and as dense as possible. Sometimes they may have a coat that is slightly wavy on their back and on their hindquarters; this is not at all objectionable. If their coat is brushed ion the wrong direction, it tends to fall back in to its place quite naturally. Their coat is mostly always white with a few distinct patches of black here and there n their body and their croup. Their collar, belly, legs, fore chest and their tail is normally white in color. They may have a black colored head, but if so, then they have a white colored muzzle with a white symmetrical base.
These dogs are said to have outstanding temperament. They are a good, courageous, highly intelligent and a generous bunch of dogs. They are also said to have a lot of patience. These dogs are very mild when it comes to guests and also very obsequious when it comes to their owners. These dogs are very noble, calm natured, loyal, gentle and very trustworthy dogs. They are also very dignified and can be easily made peace with. They are very devoted to their owners and also very brave. When needed, they have enough intelligence to act on their own and not wait for the owner’s commands. These dogs are very protective of their families and instead of barking or growling at any strangers or intruders, they place themselves in such a way that they are in between their family and the intruder or the stranger.
