Magyar Agar
This breed of god is also known as the Hungarian Greyhound even though the Magyar Agar is not related to the greyhound, it is not even known as the greyhound in its native country. As the name suggests, it is said to be originated from Hungary and Transylvania. These dogs are a type of sighthounds. They were originally mainly used not only for the purpose of coursing and hunting but also as a companion. Nowadays however, in addition to making a fine companion, their elegance and their wash and wear coat, makes them highly suitable for the purpose of conformation showing. They are quite rare outside of Europe but are found in rare numbers in The United States of America.
They are sighthounds of rugged but yet an elegant stature. Even though they have a few similar characteristics to the grey hounds, they should not be mistaken for them as they have a lot of features that make them different from the greyhounds. The length of their body is slightly larger in comparison to their height. They have quite a heavy bone structure. Their heads are wedge shaped. They have substantial jaw muscles with shorter snouts. This gives them a less refined appearance, unlike the grey hounds. They have a very thick skin which has the presence of a dense, short and smooth coat on it. Their coat grows slightly longer during the winter months. They are quite hardy dogs and have the ability to tolerate much lower temperatures than few other short coated sighthounds can. They have ears that are rose shaped and raise only about half way. Their eyes are oval shaped and contain a gentle looking and a bright expression in them.
They grow up to weigh about approximately 49 pounds to 68 pounds and to a height of approximately 24 inches to 27 inches at their shoulders. They do not have a specific color as such. They come in a large variety of colors. The Magyar Agar has a very sturdy frame, this makes it rather ideal for a coursing game even over a rugged ground or terrain. When compared to the greyhounds, the Magyar Agar is not as fast on short sprints but the Magyar Agar possesses larger degree of stamina and endurance. This makes them highly suitable for running large distances for a continuous period for over a long time. It is said that, in olden days, these dogs would trail along their masters who were on a horseback.
They can live comfortably and happily in both apartments and also the outdoors as they are very adaptable in nature. They also need to be provided with the required amount of exercise along with which, human interaction is also important. They make excellent house pets if kept inside the house. Just because they are known to spend most of the day time sleeping they are in no ways couch potatoes, as they still require their daily exercise to stay happy and fit.
