Miniature Schnauzer


The Miniature Schnauzer is a breed of dog that originated in Germany. These dogs are from the Schnauzer family. These dogs have been around since as early as the 19th century. These dogs have been made by crossing the Giant Schnauzer and smaller breeds like the affenpinscher and the Poodle. These dogs are amongst the most popular breed of dog. These dogs were voted the 11th most popular dog in the U.S in 2008. These dogs are very friendly. They have a very calm and outgoing temperament. This feature has made them very popular. They are not very big dogs and can adjust to almost any living conditions. This also adds to their appeal. These dogs are usually seen in a solid color of black, black and silver and salt pepper. These dogs are never allowed to be in a solid whiter color, smaller patches of the same color are acceptable.

The Miniature Schnauzer is a small, compact and well built dog. These dogs are quite sturdy for their relatively small size. These dogs are as long as they a tall. This gives them rather square like in appearance. These dogs are proportionate in size. The head is quite broad but starts narrowing from the ears to the eyes. They have a nice and rather strong muzzle. The muzzle ends in a somewhat blunt stop with a black nose. They have small eyes that are deep set and in a dark brown color.

These dogs have ears that are set quite high on the head. Their ears are more often than cropped to a specific point. Their tail is carried high and is also docked. They have straight and sturdy limbs that make them quite good at agility. These dogs have a double layered coat. The outercoat is harsh and wiry while the undercoat is rather soft. The coat needs to be trimmed regularly. The coat is trimmed to ensure the dog has a bushy beard, eyebrows and a moustache.

This dog is a loving, intelligent and happy dog. They are very receptive and will be able to understand their masters quite well. These dogs are capable of forming a strong bond with their masters. They enjoy time with their family and will not do well if they are left alone for long hours.

These dogs will require a fair amount of exercise. These dogs are full of energy and are very loyal. They will love playing with children. The owners need to be firm yet strong and calm. The dog should never be allowed to feel superior to their master. These dogs stand at 230-36 cms tall and weigh in at about 5-7 kgs. These dogs are not very noisy but make very good watch dogs. They have a tendency to chase rats and other small animals. They can get along with cats but will not do well with other non canine pets. These dogs have a life expectancy of about 15 years. They need lots of exercise.
