Mountain Cur

The Mountain cur is a dog that was mainly used of hunting. This working dog was first seen in parts of the United States. These dogs were famous for the skill in hunting wild boar. They were used as bay dogs. The Mountain cur is a kind of hound that was also used as an all purpose working dog. This kind of dog has very strong limbs and is an able swimmer. These dogs have an easy going temperament and can be trained to be water dogs. They can also be used for other rescue purposes as well as sniffer dogs for the police.

The mountain cur was a dog bred mainly as a working animal. They have a rugged and stocky appearance with a typical body of a cur. The mountain cur has a very heavy coat. Their coats have short hair, but are relatively longer than the other hounds. They have a double layered coat with fine and soft under coat and rough yet smooth topcoat. These dogs are mainly seen in black, yellow, brindle and black and brindle. More often than not these dogs are seen with some white spots. The mountain cur has a wide and muscular body. Their heads are wide with shorts ears set pretty high on the head. The eyes of this dog are very expressive and are usually of a dark colour. Their feet are muscular and perfectly set for high speed. Their legs are muscular and agile. They have a deep seated chest with a straight back.

The mountain cur is not a dog that is very submissive. They have a basic hunting instinct and are fearless, tough and courageous dogs. The Mountain cur is very silent while trailing an animal but will pounce with ferocity and skill. This breed of dog is essentially a working dog and will not do well as a simple house pet. They require something to do and are happiest while at work. They make excellent work dogs. These dogs are very protective of the ones they love. They have the ability to form a strong bond with their masters and are always eager to please. These dogs can be objectively trained but require somewhat firm handling.

The mountain cur stands at about 46-66cms tall and weighs in at about 16-19 kg. The mountain cur is a very intelligent dog and is not a shy or vicious animal. The mountain cur does not do well in an apartment. They are not suited for life in the suburbs. This dog is a working dog or a hunting dog and will appreciate having some kind of job to do. They are very active animals and require ample amounts of daily exercise. They love playing any kind of outdoor sports and will enjoy going on a hike or adventure trip. These dogs are very easy to groom. Bathing too often can make their skin dry and cause skin problems. This breed of dog will live for 12-16 years.
