They are fond of the water and were first developed to retrieve the ducks from the water once they were hunted. They make very faithful and loyal companions. They were used mainly by hunters when they were first developed. This breed has now become extinct everywhere except for Australia and North America.
The Murray Curly dogs are very lovable as puppies. They are small built dogs with webbed feet. Their coat is usually seen in a liver color with some white markings on the chest sometimes noticed. Their ears are rather long much like that of Spaniels. Their bodies are abundantly covered with very curly hair. These curls are very useful for the dogs. Their curls help to make them more waterproof. They do not get weighed down by the hair and are able to swim with swiftness and finesse. These dogs do not have an undercoat and this makes them more susceptible to the cold. They tend to feel cold much faster when they are let wet for too long. Since these dogs have an abundance of hair they tend to be summer shedders. These dogs do however prefer living in a hot and sunny place.
These dogs are very faithful and will remain so throughout life. They do however have a tendency to chase birds around. These dogs seem to have been bred for some sort of hunting and should thus not be left without a leash in an open space. They make excellent family pets. They love children and show a lot of affection towards everyone in their family. These dogs are very energetic and playful. They have a stamina that outlasts most humans and need lots of exercise to keep them calm and well behaved. These dogs have eyes in a golden yellow color. Their eyes are very expressive and usually have an intelligent expression. These dogs have rather large paws that allow them to be good swimmers. They do not however prefer swimming to walking on land.
The Murray’s are very protective dogs. They have a strong sense of protection. They do however get along well with other cats and dogs. The animals should however never attack the Murray, as this can make them aggressive. These dogs have a rather deep seated chest and relatively short legs. These dogs are very easily trained and are obedient once trained. They need to be socialized with pets and people early on as they are not very friendly with strangers. These dogs do require some amount of grooming. Ironically swimming is the best way to ensure all the dead skin is removed. Their claws will need to be trimmed regularly. Their ears need to be checked for infection.
