New Guinea Singing Dog
The New Guinea singing dog is a wild breed of dog. They are mainly found in New Guinea and are a relative of the American Dingo breed of dogs. These dogs have a very distinctive howl. It’s almost like a wolf howl but has a manner of its own. These dogs have a unique ability to control the pitch of their howl. This unique characteristic gives the name of being Singer dogs. The New Guinea Singing dog is one of the oldest breeds of dog to still live. They were initially dogs of the forest and are hardly seen today. These dogs have not been classified as extinct as many natives claim to still be able to hear their distinct howl.
The New Guinea Singing Dog is very similar in appearance to a fox. They have medium sized bodies with short ears that are almost always pricked up. Their heads have a distinct wedge shape with triangular shaped eyes that are set obliquely on the head. This breed of dog has a nice brushy tail with a plush and shiny fur coat. These dogs do not require any grooming and are shown in their natural form at dog shows. The New Guinea Singing dog has a beautiful coat that can either be long or of an average length. The Coat is usually seen in a red, tan, variations of red sometimes with white symmetrical markings or even in a black color. The white marks on the dog should not cover too much of the body. These dogs have a broad head with a nice and muscular body build.
The New Guinea Singing dog is not your average house pet. They are infact not ideal for the home setting because of their somewhat wild nature. These dogs are not very easy to train but once trained can turn out to be friendly with some known people. These dogs can even develop a deep bond with their owners becoming rather attached and fond of them. These dogs have a very unique vocal ability. They are not necessarily noisy dogs but have the ability to modulate the pitch of their howl. This breed of dog is very alert and lively. They are forever moving around making them rather active dogs. They are explorer dogs.
The New Guinea Singing dog has a commendable flexibility. They are capable of squeezing themselves through any small openings. These dogs are star hunters. They can locate their prey through heightened hearing and seeing abilities. These dogs can be very calm and even gentle with their family and be completely disinterested in strangers. They can be aggressive towards people they don’t like. These dogs do not have any noted health problems. They are a relatively healthy breed. This dog stands at 35-38 cms tall and weighs about 8-14 kgs. These dogs will require a good amount of physical activity through out the day. These dogs can withstand any weather. They have a life span of 15-20 years.
