Norfolk terrier


The Norfolk terrier is one of the smallest breed of terrier dogs. These dogs are essentially working dogs. They stand at 25-30 cms tall and weigh in at about 5 kgs. These dogs are very affectionate and love humans. They hate being alone and will be most happy when they are in contact with some human. These dogs maybe small in size but can still be aggressive when they want to be. These dogs can even defend themselves if ever the need arises. They are not too fond of strangers and are quite noisy. These dogs need to be trained not to bark without reason. They are otherwise described as having the softest and calmest temperament of all the terriers.

The Norfolk terrier is a strong, short and sturdy dog. They have almost round heads with a wide gap between their ears. They have a nicely defined stop with an almost wedge shape muzzle. They have eyes that are oval and small and are usually seen in some dark color. They have tiny little ears that hand very tight towards the cheeks. They have defined black nails with small round feet. Their legs are quite straight and relatively muscular for their size. Their coats are straight and wiry. The fur varies in length from 1-2 inches long. Their coats are seen in grizzle, wheaten, black and tan, red and tan colors. Other markings are not always present and not necessarily preferred.

These dogs are the smallest working dogs. They are very active and affectionate dogs. They are balanced, courageous and rather obedient. They do not quarrel with their masters or show any signs of nervous behavior. These dogs are very easily trained but will require rules at all times. They are very lovable and enjoy the company of children. This is one breed that adores any sort of fetch game. They will chase after any small thing you throw. These dogs have a lot of energy and will require lots of play time and exercise to keep them from becoming destructive. This breed of dog will tolerate non canine pets as long as they are not too small.

The Norfolk terrier is a fairly healthy dog. They do however have a few health problems including eyes infections that can be genetic. They are quite prone to back ailments but are otherwise sturdy animals. These dogs will require ample exercise in any kind of home. They can live in an apartment happily if they get enough play time. These dogs do not necessarily require a large yard to roam around in. This breed if full of energy and likes having some work to do. They can even be taken on short jogs to drain them of excess energy. These dogs are quite easy to groom. They will however need to be brushed on a daily basis. This will ensure the coat remains healthy. Nail clipping will need to be done occasionally. These dogs will live for about 12-15 years.
