North Country Beagle

These dogs are either small or a medium sized breed of dogs. These dogs belong to the hound group. They have a lot of similarities to the foxhound when it comes to their appearance, but these dogs are a little shorter. They have shorter legs and longer and softer ears. These dogs are mainly scent hounds. These dogs were primarily developed for the purpose of tracking rabbit and hare. As these are scent hound, they have a very keen sense of smell and also have a very strong tracking instinct. This quality in them is the reason that they are employed as detection dogs all over the world. These dogs detect prohibited foodstuff and agricultural imports in quarantine. They are also most commonly used as pets, as they have a quite desirable size and also because they lack all kinds of inherited health problems. These dogs have a very even temper as well; this makes them a very good choice for animal testing. These dogs have been around for a long time; however they were developed in the Great Britain.

They generally have an appearance quite similar to that of a foxhound, but a smaller one. They have a very broad head. This head has a quite small muzzle. They carry an expression on their faces that is completely different from the foxhounds. When compared to the size of their body, they have relatively shorter legs. They grow up to be about to be around 13 inches to 16 inches in height (high at their withers) and weigh in at around approximately 18 pounds to 35 pounds. However, the females are generally found to be quite smaller than the males when taken an average. They have a very smooth skull. This smooth skull of theirs is slightly domed.

They also have a medium length muzzle. This muzzle is a square cut muzzle. They have a black nose. Their nose may also have a chance of being liver in color. They have a gumdrop kind of nose. They have a very strong pair of jaws. Their teeth meet to form a scissor bite. Their upper set of teeth fit perfectly over their lower set of teeth. Both the upper and the lower sets of teeth are perfectly aligned square to their jaw. They have a large pair of eyes. They are generally hazel or brown in color. These eyes carry in them, a very mild and a hound like pleading look.

They also have a very large pair of ears. These ears are long and very soft. They have a pair of low set ears. They turn slightly towards their cheeks and are also slightly rounded at the tips. They have a very strong and a medium length neck. They have some evidence of having a dewlap. They have a very broad chest that tapers towards the end. They have a very short tail. Their tail is a little curved at the tip and they have a white colored tip. This whit colored tip also goes by the name flag. This white tip is very desirable because it helps to locate the dog when it has its head held low following some kind of scent.
