Norwich Terrier

These dogs were developed in East Anglia, which is situated in the country of England. During the time that these digs were developed, there were two breeds, the Norwich terrier and the Norfolk, that were considered as the same dog. This was because these two dogs were exactly similar to each other when it came to their looks. The only difference was that these dogs and different ear types. However this small difference was ignored and both these breeds of dogs were called by the same name, the Norwich terrier.

It was in England that these two dogs were clearly differentiated from each other and were recognized as two different breed of dogs with their own distinct looks and their own distinct characteristics. These two were then called by their two separate names. This took place in the year 1964. The main difference between these two breeds of dogs was that the Norwich terrier had a pair of perked up ears that were quite small in size and the Norfolk had droopy ears. There were other slight differences between these two breeds of dogs as well. Some of them being, the Norfolk breed of dogs were angular when it came to their shape and the Norwich breed of dogs were more circular and round in their shape.

These dogs were mainly used for the purpose of being barnyard ratters and also for the purpose of bolting those foxes that had managed to run off and escape during the fox hunts. These dogs used their small sized bodies for their advantage. It was because of their small size that they could easily get in and out of fox dens easily without facing any kind of problems. The dogs did their jobs of flushing all the foxes out off their dens. After this was done, the hunters who used to ride on a horse back would get the job done. These dogs are short yet very sturdy dogs. They may have small size but yet are a very strong bunch of dogs. They have slightly rounded head. They have a very wide head. They have a pair if ears that are set very wide apart from each other.

They have a muzzle that is kind of shaped like a wedge. Their muzzles are very strong as well. They come to a very well defined and a very clear stop. They have a pair of small sized eyes. Their eyes are oval in shape and are dark in color. They have a pair of medium sized ears. These medium sized ears stand very erect almost all the time. They have extremely straight legs. These legs end with as round shaped feet which are accompanied by 5 black toes. They have a medium sized tail. Their tails are usually set in a high level when compared to their top line. Their tails are generally docked by half. They have straight coat. Their coats are wiry in nature and when left to grow naturally they grow up to about one and a half to about 2 inches in length.
