Old Croatian Sight hound

The Old Croatian sight hound is breed of dog that was first seen in parts of Croatia. This dog is art of the hound family. These dogs are known as the hrt in the region of origin. This dog was almost extinct; its existence was however confirmed by authorities in 2008. This dog has a grey hound like appearance. They are originally hunters that were used for tracking. They were experts at tracking out and finding any kind of game. These dogs had very powerful eyes. They had a build like a typical hound. These dogs were tall and lean. They were never fat and needed lots of exercise to keep them in shape.

This dog had rose ears that were quite long. Their ears fell downwards to the face. These dogs had a long muzzle with a defined stop. The ears were medium in size. These dogs had a very short coat. They were not very furry animals with no feathering noticed. This dog had a long tail with a curl at the end. The tail was carried quite high. These dogs were seen in many different coat colors. Their main body was always white. There was either black, dark brown or even yellowish spotting that was noticed. These dogs stood at 50-70 cms tall. The females were about 5 to 10 cms shorter than the males.

These dogs had a well tucked in stomach with a slightly arched body. Their ribs were rather high set with long and muscular limbs. These dogs were fairly independent and do not require much grooming. They needed to be brushed regularly to keep the coat healthy. This dog is not suited for life in an apartment. These dogs need lots of space to run around and play. They are recommended as pets only for experienced owners. These dogs will require firm and patient handling. These dogs are very intelligent and hence rather easy to train. They will need to be socialized early on as they can be aloof and wary of strangers.

These dogs are very loyal to their family and very protective of them as well. This dog is very powerful and can attack intruders that are twice their size. This makes them very good guard dogs. These dogs are not very noisy, they only bark when they see the game or when they sense a threat. They have the capacity to form a strong bong with their owners. These dogs are quite good with children. This dog will require quite a bit of attention as they can get temperamental if they are not given enough of it. This dog will need lots of exercise to keep him physically fit. These dogs are mainly work dogs and will need to have something to do to keep them happy. They will need constant physical and mental stimulation. These dogs get very excited when they are being taken out for a walk. They remain quite calm while they are indoors.
