Papillon

The Papillon dog is another very small breed of dog. These dogs are originally from France. These dogs are from the Spaniel family of dogs. This breed of dog is very friendly and has a certain air of elegance to them. The Name Papillon is a French word meaning butterfly. These dogs got their name because of the shape of their ears. Their ears have a good amount of feathering that leads them to look like a butterfly. These dogs are a kind of toy dog. They are infact the oldest living spaniels that are toy dogs. These dogs were not bred for work but for being companions. These dogs are quite noisy and make quite good watch dogs.

The Papillon dog is a fine boned and small dog. They have a somewhat rounded and small head with a very nicely defined stop. These dogs have a very short muzzle that seems almost tapering towards the nose. Their eyes are always of a dark color, medium in size and have black rims. They have large ears that have a lot of feathering. The ears are held high on the head and have almost rounded tips. Their ears are very distinctive. These dogs have a considerably long tail that is held quite high. The tail is also covered with a lot of fur and has noticeable feathering. The dogs are seen in a base color of white with marking of any other color other than liver. These dogs are much tougher than they appear to be.

The Papillon dog loves being outdoors. They love running around and playing. These dogs are very intelligent and friendly animals. These dogs can be very amusing and have a certain charm about them. This breed of dog is very active, animated, playful and lively. These dogs will keep their owners entertained. These dogs are very proud and that can be noticed in the way they move. These dogs are people dogs. They love to cuddly. They thrive on attention and will get upset if they are not given enough of it. These dogs are very gentle and patient as well. These dogs are very obedient but can be a little hard to housebreak. Once they are trained they will obey their masters. These dogs can even perform a few simple tricks if they are trained early on. These dogs get along quite well with cats that they are brought up with.

These dogs stand at about 20-28cms tall. The males and the females are of the same height. They weight between 3 and 5 kgs. They are not very good pets in an apartment. These dogs are very protective of their surrounding. This will make them bark at any noise making it hard for the neighbors. They can however live in a small space. They will however need to be sufficiently exercised. These dogs have quite along life span. They can live upto 16 years. These dogs will require a fair amount of grooming.
