Parson Russell Terrier

These dogs are more formally known as the Jack Russell Terrier, instead of being called as Parson Russell Terrier. These dogs get their name from a clergy man named, Rev. John Russell who was the one person mainly responsible for developing these dogs in to becoming the breed that they are today. These dogs were originally used for the purpose of being a small sized game hunting dog and were used especially for the hunting of animals such as red fox. They were also quite popular for digging quarry out of their dens. To make up for their small size when compared to other hunting dogs, these dogs have quite long legs so that they can compete with the other hunting dogs and maintain their speed while running and not be left behind or be considered as being less efficient than the other dogs.

These dogs can be considered to be multi talented. This because they are not just good at hunting but are good at many other fields as well. Some of the other fields that they are good at are, tracking, performing tricks and agility. These dogs are known to have a very strong head. These strong head of theirs is such that it is in perfect proportion with the rest of the body. They have a very strong muzzle. This muzzle, when it comes to its shape, is quite rectangular in shape. Their muzzles have a very well defined, clear and an abrupt stop but they are not very prominent. They have a black colored nose. They have a pair of medium sized eyes.

This medium sized eye of theirs, when it comes to their shape, is almond shaped in nature. These eyes are under lined with either a dark colored rim or a pink colored rim. Their ears are usually folded over in the forward direction. They are v shaped in nature. Their teeth usually tend to meet to form a very strong and equally powerful scissor bite. They have a deep and an equally narrow chest. They have very strong pair of legs. Their legs along with being strong are very straight as well. They have a quite high set tail. This high set tail of theirs is quite long when looked at its length. This tail is generally docked in such a manner that the tip of their tail is in perfect level with their skulls.

They have a pair of round shaped feet. This round shaped feet of theirs is also quite cat like shaped in nature. These dogs are double coated in nature. That is, they have two coats on them. They are the outer coat and the inner coat. The two coats by nature have different features and characteristics. The outer coat as the name suggests is the coat that forms the upper or the outer layer of the dog’s body. The outer coat in this dog is harsh in nature; it is also quite wire haired. The inner coat on the other hand, even though is equally harsh as the outer layer, but when it comes to their texture, the inner coat is very soft to touch.
