Pekingese

These dogs get their name from the city of Peking. This city may not be very familiar however; its present name Beijing should ring a bell. These dogs in the olden days were considered to be very sacred in nature. These dogs were considered to be the legendary foro that drove away all the sprits. It is said that in these olden times. Only the Chinese royal families had the right to own these dogs. These dogs were even considered to be semi divine. If any person dared to steal these dogs then he or she would get a death sentence with no questions asked or no explanations given. They were considered to be sacred to such an extent that anyone who was not of the noble rank was actually asked to bow down to these dogs.

When the emperor who owned this dog died, it was tradition and a custom that even this dog was sacrificed so that the dog could go with the emperor wherever he went. However, when the British army invaded china, these dogs were immediately asked to be killed. This merciless killing was done so that these dogs would not fall in to the hand s of the British or the foreign evils. After this killing, it is said that only a handful of 5 dogs’ survived this, and all these dogs were immediately handed over to queen Victoria.

These dogs are quite small in size. They are however very well balanced dogs. These are very compact little dogs. They have a stocky little body, yet quite muscular. The length of their body is slightly larger when compared to the height of their body. Their head is quite large and not quite in proportion to the size of the rest of the body. The top of this large head is very massive and flat. It is also very broad. One of the most distinct feature and characteristics of these dogs is the fact that the font of their face is flat. They have a broad muzzle. This broad muzzle of theirs is very flat as well. Their muzzle is quite thick in the area below their eyes and this muzzle separates the upper and the lower part of their face. They skin on this separating muzzle is black in color.

They have a black colored nose. This black colored nose of theirs is very wide and broad. Their noses are also very short, as in proportion with the entire body. They also have a very broad jaw bone. Their teeth generally meet to form an under bite. They have a pair of large eyes. These large eyes are very prominent. Their eyes, when it comes to their shape are round in shape. Their eyes are also set quite far apart from each other. Their eyes are under lined by black colored rims. They have a pair of heart shaped ears. Their ears are situated at the front corner of their heads. These heart shaped ears of theirs generally tend to lie flat on their heads.
