PETITE BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN

Its origin, in the French department of Vendee, was due to the fact that the great griffon breeders wished for the same dog, but in smaller proportions. So, they crossed this dog with the San Huberto dog and the tawny Italian and, after successive selections, this variety was born.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the PETITE BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN
As its larger predecessor, this basset is a solid animal, without having a heavy appearance. It stands between 34 and 38 cm and its weigh is between 12 and 14 kg. The skull is moderate, in length as in width. The muzzle is much shorter than the larger bassets, it has a square shape at the end, the nasal canal is straight and the nose is large and black. The fur is long, hard, tangled and rough; tawny or gray, both uniform colors, it can also be bicolor in white or tawny or gray, and tricolor including all three shades. We must be careful about leaving it alone in an unprotected place, since it is a formidable digger and great escapist.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the PETITE BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN
It is intelligent, affectionate, quiet, but a little stubborn. It is good to the family, especially to children. Its adaptation is very easy as well as its training acceptance.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a PETITE BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN
Regular care: a good brushing once a week to keep the tangled fur in good shape is very easy, as well as moderate exercise acceptance, two walks a day is enough.
