These dogs are said to originate from the country of Belgium in roughly around the eighteen hundreds. These dogs were highly famous and popular among the royal ladies all over the world. These dogs are quite like the spaniels. However, there are quite a lot of differences and the main one would have to be the size of these dogs. These dogs when compared to the average spaniel dog are much smaller in size. They can be safely called as the miniature or the dwarf spaniels. These dogs were slowly then carried to the US and then to England. These dogs around by a lot of names, some of these names are the drop eared pappilon, Espangnuel Nain and also as the continental spaniel.

These dogs as mentioned earlier are quite like a spaniel in their appearance. They are often quite rightly called as the miniature spaniel. They have a pair of pendant shaped ears. These ears are not altered at all. They have a cute little plum of a tail as well. This tail of theirs is gracefully carried across their back and this is not altered either. They roughly grow up to be around 8 inched to 11 inches in height at their shoulders. If they are even a little taller that this then they will be disqualified and are not at all desirable. It is quite frowned up on in the dog world. When properly fed and taken care of and also if given proper amount of exercise, then these dogs will weigh in at about 8 pounds to 10 pounds.

These dogs are genuinely happy dogs. They get along with almost everybody and generally love to be around a lot of people. These dogs live for companion ship and thus have the ability to make wonderful companion dogs. These dogs are generally calm and cool natured dogs, however, when threatened or even stressed in any way, they have the tendency to get very assertive. These dogs are also very protective in nature. These dogs also have the ability or the tendency to be excellent watch dogs. This is because of the fact that they tend to bark when something different.
