PHARAOH HOUND
It originates in the Malta Island, perhaps while the Phoenician took the first dogs from Egypt, 2,000 years ago. It was bred as a rabbit hunter, activity in which it demonstrates a noticeable skill. In the older times, this dog was respected during its entire life, and to their death it was honored burying it with a ritual similar to the one performed with nobility.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the PHARAOH HOUND
This dog has very developed senses, especially the hearing sense. It presents an impressive appearance and, at the same time, it is light, altive and elegant. Its size is medium, the males are 58 cm high, the females are 53 cm and weigh between 15 to 20 kg. The skull is elongated, the stop is light and the nose has variable pigmentation, in harmony to the fur color. The eyes are oval shaped and deep, they have a lively and intelligent expression, and the color, usually amber, also depends on the coat; the ears have a lot of mobility, are long and thin with a wide base. The fur is short and shiny, white, tawny or reddish with irregular white spots.
It is an enthusiastic and attentive hunter, which searches the prey through the sense of smell and sight, applying the sense of hearing when it is close to the prey.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the PHARAOH HOUND
It is intelligent, nice and fun. So loyal and affectionate to the owner that it can become an ideal pet, an excellent company for him and his family. Easy to educate, it learns the rules that help it adapt to socialization quickly. It feels happiest in a house with a yard, but it also adapts well to an apartment.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a PHARAOH HOUND
Simple hygiene and diet rules are enough to keep this dog healthy and cared for. It needs to exercise regularly.
