These Picardy spaniel dogs also belong to the very large and the vast spaniel family of dos. These dogs like the other spaniel dogs, originate from France. They were said to originate a lot of centuries ago. These dogs along with the French spaniel dogs are often considered as the oldest of all the continental breed of dogs. There is a reason for them being considered so, it is because both of these dogs are said to have stemmed from the ancient Chien d’Oysel. These dogs had originated in an era when hunting had gained a lot of popularity and hence quite obviously these dogs were used for the purpose of hunting. These dogs soon became the favourite among all the royals. These dogs used to accompany the kings and the princes during all their hunting expeditions. These dogs have a very resistant to wet and cold weather as well.

These dogs are quite similar to the blue Picardy spaniels; both of these dogs have a very soft nature. However, they have the most obvious difference, and that as their name suggests, is their coat color. The Picardy spaniels have a brown colored coat while the blue Picardy spaniel, as the name suggest, have a bluish tinge to their coat.

These dogs are known to be very courageous dogs. They are equally tenacious in nature as they are courageous. These dogs are the most ideal hunting dogs and no hunter could ever ask for a better and more efficient hunting companion. These dogs are quite naturally amiable in nature.
