Plott Hound


These dogs, the Plott hounds, are the only bred of dogs that re American dogs without British ancestry. These dogs are named after Jonathan Plott, who was the main guy responsible for their breeding and development. These dogs were mainly used for the purpose of hunting, especially for the purpose of hunting bears, racoons in Appalachian, the blue ridged and even in the Great Smoky Mountains. These dogs are extremely rare. These dogs are very hardy bunch of dogs. They also have exceptional searching skills. They were also used for the purpose of search of animals such as coyotes, wildcats and coyotes as well. These dogs are also known to make very excellent companion dogs. However, even though they had the ability to make good companion dogs, they were never used for this purpose.

These dogs are medium sized dogs. These medium sized dogs are very powerful in nature. These dogs are equally muscular as they are powerful in nature. They have a skull that is quite flat in nature. These skull in placed within a well fitted skin. They a rather long muzzle attached to their heads. These long muzzle has the presence of a few flews, and because of the presence of these few flews, their muzzle has a square shaped appearance. They have black colored lips. Their noses are black in color as well. They have a pair of very prominent eyes. These prominent eyes come in a lot of colors. Some of these eyes colors are brown or hazel. These different colored eyes have a black colored rim under them. They have a pair of ears that are medium in size. These medium sized ears are usually drooping in nature. Their ears are set quite far apart from each other. These wide set ears are quite broad as well.

They have quite a long tail. They have very strong feet. Their feet end with toes that are webbed in nature. They have a very short coat. This makes them very easy to groom. Their short coat has a glossy look to it. Their glossy coat is very fine and equally smooth as well. These dogs are generally single coated, however, once or twice; a double coated dog may appear. Their coat colors may vary from a dog to dog. They have a very large range of colors. Some of these colors are, solid black, and brindle with a black saddle. They may be black in color with a brindle trim. They may also have a rare buck skin color. Their coat color may range between any shades of brindle. Sometimes these dogs may be seen having a few white patches around their chest and their feet.

These dogs are said to make lovely companion dogs. These are very quick learners. These dogs are also very quick to love. They are very good with children of all ages. These dogs are very determined. They are also very proud and courageous in nature. These dogs have a very sharp and a high pitched bark.
