Polish Hunting Dog


These dogs are also mostly commonly known as the Gonczy Polski. These dogs are known to exist since the early 13th century. This era that these dogs existed in was when hunting was very famous. These dogs are said to originate from, as their name suggest Poland. These dogs soon became a scent hound that was quite popular among all the hunters and soon earned their fame of being a very popular hunting dog. These dogs were said to be of two types. The Polish scent hound and the Polish brach. There is not a lot of information found about the differences among these dogs. Not a lot of descriptions have been given. However, it is said that the Polish scent hound weighs in a little less when compared to the weight of the polish brach. It was only in 1983 that the valid and the standard breed of these dogs were finally created.

These dogs were mainly used for the purpose of hunting, especially animals like boar and deer in their native country. These dogs are held at a very high position by the Polish nobility. These dogs were considered to be the only dogs that had all the qualities like being a protector, a very devoted and a loyal friend. These pets are very easy to groom and take care as well because these dogs do not need any extensive maintenance and care. These dogs are very well known for their exceptional scenting abilities. These dogs also have the ability to not only work, but work very efficiently in all kinds of terrain. These dogs are also said to be very agile in nature. They show a lot of enthusiasm for their work. They are very adaptable and have a gift of an aptitude for under taking any difficult terrain or working conditions.

These dogs are very dependable and will always protect their family. These dogs are not very aggressive in nature, but they have a very massive body which is accompanied by a very deep as well as melodious howl. This howl is enough to intimidate and scare any intruder. These dogs are very affectionate to its families. These dogs are also very friendly in nature. They are known to do very well with all kinds of other pets as well. However, this friendliness is not at all for the members outside to their family. These dogs make excellent guard dogs. They are very courageous and plus the above qualities out together gives them all the necessary things that a dig requires to be an excellent guard dog. These dogs when fully grown in to an adult and given proper care and excersice grow up to be about 23 inches in height and weigh in at about approximately 55 pounds. These dogs are a bunch of medium sized dogs. They have a compact and a well constructed body which is very strong as well. Their bodies are designed so that they are very well suited for the rough terrain and quite harsh weather conditions.
