Polish Lowland Sheepdog

These dogs are also known as the Polish Owczarek Nizinny and can sometimes for short be called as PONS. These dogs are said to have worked in the lowland plains for quite a long time. It is quite often believed that these dogs are the descendants of the ancient corded herding dogs who originally originated from the Hungarian plains. These dogs are medium when it comes to their size. They are a bunch of robust dogs. Like many other breeds of dogs, at the break of the World War 2, these dogs nearly reached extinction.

However, they were brought out of this extinction due to the efforts of breeders. These dogs are popular not only in Poland but outside their native country as well. These dogs are quite often kept as house hold companions, these however do not mean that these dogs are not good herders any more, they still retain that ability. These dogs have a lot of talents, some of them are: obedience, agility, tracking and therapy. These dogs, as said earlier are medium sized dogs. They are a bunch if shaggy working dogs. They have quite a broad head and this head of theirs is slightly domed a well. They have a pair of high set ears. Their ears are usually dropped. These drop ears are heart shaped in nature.

They have a pair of medium sized eyes. These medium sized eyes of theirs may vary in color. They have quite a wide range of colors that their eyes may appear in. Some of them are hazel in color, brown in color or even blue in color. However the blue colored eye is not accepted when it comes to show rings. These dogs are double coated dogs, that is, they have two layers of coat. These are the outer layer and the inner layer. These dogs have a very long outer coat. Their outer coat is generally white in color. But they may sometimes appear in a gray of a black colored outer coat; this is not uncommon at all and is widely accepted jus as much as the white colored one is. They have a very soft inner coat. These dogs have a lot of hair on their forehead, their cheeks, their chin and their legs as well.

These dogs are very happy by nature. They are also known to be very clever. They are always very alert, whether they are working or whether they are relaxing. These dogs are also known to have a very good memory and they never forget anything. These dogs are quite reserved when it comes to strangers and thus are very watchful of any stranger in their property. If they do detect the presence of any stranger in their property then they make sure to announce it very loudly. These dogs however should be accustomed to people at their early ages. It is very important that this is done. These dogs are very easy to train. These dogs can also be depended on at any time of the day.
