POODLE

The poodle’s existence in Europe is known since de end of the XVII century. It emerged in France and Germany, where it is used as a duck hunting dog due to its great ability to collect specimens in the water. In Russia it was the “engine” of the milk delivery wheel burrows. During a long time, the miniature poodle was one of the preferred pets in the European aristocracy.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the POODLE
It is divided in four varieties defined by their size. The large or giant, which can exceed 55 cm to the cross, the medium to 45 cm, the midget which is between 27 and 35 cm and miniature or toy, with a maximum height of 25 cm. Five homogeneous colors are admitted in the poodle: white, black, brown, apricot and gray. The fur is dense, fine and very abundant; it can be curly or forming long ringlets. The chest is tall, the belly tucked, short feet with nails that vary in black or brown, according to the fur. The eyes are also black, brown or amber, oblique and always very lively.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the POODLE
It is a cheerful, lively and intelligent dog, for this, it can be a good companion at home, to which adapts easily as long as it is properly trained since otherwise it would be disobedient and fussy.

It has a peculiar hoppy stride, giving the impression that it barely touches the ground.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a POODLE
It is very important to care for its fine and curly fur conveniently. It must be brushed every day to avoid unpleasant knots and, with a biannual frequency, shave them. The “lion” cut needs to be made, although it is quite out of fashion. A uniform cut is ideal. The poodle is, by nature, a domestic dog, for which it doesn’t need long walks or exercise, only in the larger varieties a little more outdoor activity is convenient. It enjoys water and is a very good swimmer.
