Portuguese Pointer
These dogs, as the name might quite obviously suggest to someone, are said to originate from Portugal. These dogs are very rare to find and also very ancient. These dogs are a type of gun dog. These dogs were known for their incredible hunting ability of hunting birds. These dogs were owned mostly by the Portuguese falconers. It was owned in majority by the royalty. It was only until the 18th century that the lower class people were given the permission to raise these dogs. In their native land, these dogs went by a different name, that is, Perdigueiro Portugueso. These dogs make excellent hunting dogs. These dogs have the ability to work well and also very efficiently in all kinds of terrain that they are placed in. They can also work extremely well under any kind of extreme weather conditions. These 2 qualities in them, adds to the fact that they are excellent hunting dogs.
These dogs are extremely rare. But yet they are still extremely popular among the hunters. This alone shows the Excellency of their hunting ability. These dogs are considered as the national dog of Portugal. This is mainly and only Beauce of their hunting abilities. These dogs were bred and developed mainly for the purpose of the gun dog abilities. These dogs were born for the purpose of hunting, this sis shown by the fact that in the small age of 3 months to 4 months, these dogs pick up the knack of pointing and leans the ability to retrieve anything and everything from anywhere and everywhere that their masters points in.
These dogs make a very tenacious hunting dog. They are almost all the time very alert and are known to never let their guard down. These dogs when pointing toward their game will stand perfectly still and their head would practically be immobile; they will have a concentrated look on their face. These dogs have a very adorable and a very cute appearance. These dogs as mentioned before have excellent hunting abilities. But aside from all this, these dogs are most valued for the fact that they are very loyal to their family. These dogs also tend to be always found very close to their owners and usually tend to stick to them, thus these are casually also called as Velcro. Their affection for their owners is very remarkable. This affection may sometimes lead to a lot of embarrassment to the owner; however, these dogs if trained properly will not do anything embarrassing.
