Rampur Greyhound


The Rampur Greyhound is an Indian breed of dog that is seen in various parts of North India. This dog is a type of sight hound. These dogs were originally bred to hunt Jackals and even lions and tigers. These dogs were used by the royals of the time. These dogs are very brave and strong. They have the ability to fight animals twice their size. These dogs are not very large but are quite tall. They have an overall appearance of being lean and muscular. These dogs hound never be fat or overweight. These dogs have a nice smooth coat with fine hair. The hair is short and no feathering is noticed. These dogs are well built animals. They are very handsome dogs. These dogs are essentially work dogs and need to be kept physically fit.

The Rampur Greyhound stands at about 55-75 cms tall. The females are quite a bit shorter than the males. These dogs are not very heavy and weigh in at about 27-30 kgs. This Greyhound is seen in various colors like grizzle, mouse grey and brindle. These dogs are sometimes but rarely seen in a solid black color. The black dogs are the most prized dogs. These dogs have a long and arched neck. Their necks are muscular yet graceful. These dogs have long limbs that are built for speed. These dogs are fast, strong and have a great amount of stamina. This hound can endure through a lot and emerge victorious. The greyhound has a long muzzle with a well defined stop. Their heads are quite round and rather broad in size.

The Rampur Greyhound has a very pointed nose. Their nose emerges from a rather flat skull that is characteristic of the dog. This dog has a well defined and muscular body. Their bellies are nicely tucked in with a high arch. Their ribs are set high with a nice deep chest. These dogs have broad yet powerful chests. These dogs have ears shaped like a pendant that are set quite high on the head. Their ears are very powerful and can pick up the slightest movement. The most unique feature of the dog is their feet. This breed has feet that are shaped like the feet of a hare. This shows that the dog is built for speed and not to laze around the house. These dogs will require a lot of exercise and are not suited for apartment life.

The Rampur Greyhound is a very lovable and affectionate dog. These dogs make very good companions and love human company. They are very protective dogs and will not let any harm come to their family. They are very good with children but need to be socialized with strangers. These dogs can sometimes knock down people with their size. This is sometimes unintentional. They should thus be supervised with children. They are otherwise very gentle and calm dogs. These dogs have a high blood count and make excellent blood donors.
